Learning Resource Centre

The new LRC has more than 8,000 books for pupils to borrow to read for pleasure or to help with school work.

There is an electronic library management system for book issue and return, as well as an electronic security system to protect the stock.

Borrowers use finger print recognition to take out books and can borrow 2 books for 3 weeks.

There are networked computers with access to CD Rom and the Internet for pupils to use for study purposes, as well as photocopying and printing facilities for school work.  The Librarian, Mrs Harwood, is available to help with any queries.

The LRC is usually open before and after school and also every break and lunchtime for pupils to read, research, study or complete homework.

 For your information

The electronic library management system allows you to borrow books by scanning your fingerprint rather than issuing a library card which may get lost.

Identikit DOES NOT store any image of a fingerprint. Rather it creates a mathematical template that is fully secure.  It is not possible to recreate or retrieve an image of your fingerprint from the data stored on the system and it is not in a form that can be used by any other security system, or for anything other than borrowing books. Also the data is automatically deleted when you leave.

The data is fully protected internally using the latest 128-bit encryption technology.

There are no health risks as the scanner uses simple harmless CCD technology. It is not a laser
