1.  To encourage in the pupils an awareness of the importance of history and the past and to lay the foundations for an interest in the subject both at school and in their future lives.

2.  To enable pupils to understand how the world has been shaped by the past, in order that they might better understand the world in which they now live. 

3.  To provide the pupils with an appreciation of other societies and cultures, which will help them to grasp some of the complex issues of the present day world.

4.  To provide pupils with an experience of history which is lively and stimulating using a variety of teaching approaches.
