Leisure and Tourism is one of the most rapidly expanding sectors of the economy and this course would be ideal for anyone seeking employment in the industry. It also provides a basis for further study post 16.
The fundamental philosophy of this course is to enable candidates to:
·Develop an understanding of the nature of the leisure and tourism industry and the contribution it makes to society and the economy
·Investigate leisure and tourism destinations both in the UK and internationally
·Develop an understanding of how leisure and tourism organisations operate as businesses through exploration of concepts such as marketing, customer service and health and safety.
·Study the impact of tourism on communities and environments, including eco-tourism
The GCSE in Leisure and Tourism examine by OCR has been designedto provide a range of teaching, learning and assessment styles to motivate pupils to achieve the best they can and to empower them to take responsibility for their own learning and development.
Assessment is designed to give credit for what candidates can do as well as what they know. It is based on portfolio evidence from timed, controlled assignments set by OCR,marked by the school and moderated by the exam board and an external assessment (exam) which is set and marked by the exam board.
